Early Childhood: Good Night Gorilla

Early Childhood: Good Night Gorilla

Good Night Gorilla is another well-loved book in my collection, held together with painters tape and a few remaining threads of the original binding. Author Peggy Rathman has created a sweet, funny, and creative sequence of events that lends itself beautifully to myriad language concepts, such as narrative development and re-tells, event sequencing, social skills, and predicting, as well as play skills. With this lesson plan I’ve tried to incorporate some of that play in the yoga sequence by inviting the kids to pull a toy jungle animal out of a bag and either do the pose as its designed or make up their own version.

For speech-language pathologists, Good Night Gorilla is also a fantastic book to work on that pesky fronting pattern with the /g/ sound.
